Xenobots : An Advent To Resurrection?

Xenobots And The Advance of Biotechnology

Scrolling through some articles I found something extremely attractive. It had the picture of a microscopic frog, so I thought of checking it out. This was the article: Team builds first living robots using frog stem cells

Let me explain this...
These are simply tiny robots, about 1mm in length, powered by AI and made from biological tissues and stem cells from the African clawed frog, Xenopus laevis, in a Petri dish. “They’re neither a traditional robot nor a known species of animal. It’s a new class of artifact: a living, programmable organism.”
These can self-replicate. Xenobots are programmed to move in different ways and can propel themselves in a linear or circular motion. They can also join together to work as a group and move small objects. They can swim, find single cells, gather cells together, and assemble "baby" Xenobots.

Xenobots are tiny brainless blobs
Actually, the picture above is quite misleading as it is showing a hypothetical representation of Xenobots. In reality, these look like blobs of pink flesh as shown in this picture :

"Mother Nature has been working here on the planet Earth for 3.5 billion years, and despite her immense creative capability, she has only explored a very, very, very small part of morpho-space, the space of all possible organisms It would be beautiful and it is beautiful and wondrous to open our eyes wider, to understand not just life as it is, but to understand life as it could be." Discovery of Xenobots

So how does AI matter here?
AI plays a crucial role in the development, control and optimization of Xenobots:
  • AI creates desired Xenobot shapes and structures.
  • It simulates Xenobot behavior, performance and interactions.
  • Regulate its movement, direction and speed.
  • Enable Xenobots to navigate complex environments.
  • Interpret data from sensors monitoring Xenobot surroundings.
  • Help them learn from experience and environments.
Now... Let's talk about their uses:
  • They are self-healing and hence help in treatment of cancer, tissue repair and targeted drug delivery.
  • They can be used to monitor pollution level and environmental remediation.
Now it's time to reimagine things...
If Xenobots can repair damaged tissues, would scientists be able to resurrect the dead within a few years' span?
Think about it... how would it change the world, how would it affect us, the ecosystem?

Let us imagine.....

The Revival

Sophia's world seemed scattered when she heard the devastating news. Her husband Eric had passed away in a car accident. She felt numb, her mind refused to accept the reality. Wandering through their empty house she felt every room echoing their memories and promises. For months the shroud of her sorrow hung heavy all over her mind. Grief engulfed her like a tidal wave.

She struggled to accept the reality. Anger and guilt wrestled within her. She replayed every moment, wondering if she could've ever changed the fate. She had to move on with her life. She was a researcher by profession and she went on with her job. Her obsession propelled her to work on developing revival to bring Eric back. She intently watched him in his cryopreservation chamber and waited for the day when she would see him again. Her colleagues grew concerned, but she was determined to work until she exhausted every single possibility.

Days later,
'Today is the day.' she announced, her voice trembling. They had perfected the Revival Protocol. The team gathered around Eric's chamber as Sophia initiated the process.

They had developed an AI algorithm that held Eric's biometric data, medical history and personality traits. They reconstructed his brain activity and controlled electrical impulses which stimulated his neural functioning. Several Xenobots were injected into his body to heal his damaged tissue. They also used Xenobots to reintegrate his memories and traits.

They recognized a pulse in the meter. Eric was resurrecting. A new life was being generated with sophisticated technology and hard work. Days of coding finally coming to an end point. They saw small movements of his fingers. His eyes slowly opened, struck by the sudden light they flickered and opened again.

Did her efforts come true? Will it alter the fate of humanity? This point leaves us with a bunch of unanswered questions...
