Epilogue: Story of Synthesis - Part 3

Michelle felt so disappointed. She did not know how she should react at this situation. This was a growing threat. What if someone knows about this? She left the room without a response. Vera felt her heart breaking into pieces. She was actually unaware how to apologize to her mother. She knew she had committed a big mistake but what could she do? It is her life after-all. 

Neil came close to her and wrapped his arm over her shoulder. He said," You must apologize to her. Talk to her and she will understand." Vera started to sob. " But how can I approach her?" Then there was a whole silence for a while.

Vera stepped up into her mother's room. Michelle was there, staring blankly out through the window. 

"Mother, I am sorry."

" Is that what your freedom is?"

" Mother, I know I am wrong. But I needed someone in my life, someone to share my feelings with."

" Your feelings, your emotions, your suffering! Have you ever thought about the pressure I took to keep you happy? How I drove you out of the lab forever? How I convinced the world? And the loss I had to face for that?"

Vera remained silent. She knew she was wrong. She never really thought about these things. She ruined everything. She felt burdened with guilt. She started to turn around and leave. The moment she was about to step out of the room, Michelle called out," Vera, forget the past. Now that it happened, we need a solution."

Michelle was determined to protect the community for which she needed to find a secluded place where they can thrive peacefully, without human interruption. She studied satellite images and used remote sensing. She herself conducted field expeditions to ensure the safety and seclusion. 

After weeks of research she found a desolated island, hidden in a deep, rugged, inaccessible region. On this Island there was once a facility started as a secret government project. This was abandoned years ago, left to decay, surrounded by wilderness. She secretly set up all the necessary infrastructure required for their survival.

It was finally the time to say goodbye. Vera's eyes welled up with tears as she embraced her mother. Michelle held her close, fighting back her emotions. " I will forever protect you." She cradled Vera's face, her thumbs wiping away the tears. " Take care of your life, Vera. Forget about me and live happily." 

Vera curled her lips to a smile. " I will never forget you, mother. I'll carry you forever in my heart." She turned and walked away, disappearing into the shadows forever. She stepped into her own world with Neil and her friends. Michelle watched her walk away, she stood resolute. 

Years passed by.... 

Michelle lived a solitary life immersed in her work. The secret location was never revealed. Her heart frequently ached with longing. However she never even attempted to know the whereabouts of Vera and her community. Despite the pain, she felt an inner peace thinking that they are safe and flourishing, hidden from humanity...
