The Revival : A New Beginning or End?
Eric's Awakening
Kindly read Part 1 before you proceed....
His eyes opened slowly, suddenly struck by the light they flickered and then opened again. Sophia's heart leapt with joy. Every second she had devoted to bring back her love was now becoming fruitful. All the grey in her mind, seemed to clear away.
Eric looked around, confused. Sophia's expectant eyes met his. They were waiting for his response. " Hwa Ruwa Kiki?" Eric asked, his voice laced with confusion. Sophia's smile flattered. "What did you say?" she asked. He smiled an evil grin at her and said,"Maruru kaka rewo!" His gaze wandered around the laboratory, as if searching for something. He raised his hand, making an awkward gesture like a puppet on strings.
Sophia grew uneasy. Tears welled up in her eyes. Her colleagues looked at her disappointedly. She asked him pathetically, "What's happening to you?" He didn't seem to listen. He continued to make weird noises and making erratic gestures. Sometimes tapping his forehead, sometimes rotating his wrists or even staring at the scientists without a blink.
A fellow researcher, Dr. Eva placed a hand on Sophia's shoulder and said, " Eric's language centers have been rewired. That's why his brain is generating random phrases and gestures." Sophia realized the gravity of playing God, tampering with the fundamental nature of human existence. "What have I done?" she sobbed.
Eric's Turmoil
His mind swirled with confusion. Fragments of memories danced in front of his eyes but he couldn't understand them. He wondered about his existence. Random phrases popped up in his mind. He muttered them out, unsure of their meanings. His gestures felt stiff and awkward. A sudden voice spoke up in his mind, "You are a revival, a new entity." He couldn't understand that. This made him recoil. He was no longer himself, and he didn't like that, so he struggled....
Breaking News
The news of Eric's revival spread like wildfire, captivating the world's attention. Media outlets swarmed the laboratory, clamoring for interviews. Sophia hesitated, concerned about Eric's fragile state, but Eva convinced her that transparency would alleviate public curiosity.
A prominent interviewer sat across a table in front of Eric. She asked, "Eric, how does it feel to be revived?" He sat with his gaze fixed on her, so she repeated the question again. This time he grinned and said in a gnarly tone, "Huwa kaki mamaso!" This sent chills down her spine. Her expression changed from curiosity to concern. "Are you Okay?" she asked. Eric's eyes went wild and he jumped at her, grabbing her arm.
Sophia rushed in to intervene but Eric was extremely powerful. He pinned the interviewer against the wall, choking her. The security officers hurried in and sedated him. As he collapsed, Sophia took his face in her hands and cried, " I am so sorry!"
The news of this violent outburst spread across the globe. Sophia faced scrutiny from her colleagues, media and the public. " Did you create a monster in your lab?" Her world seemed to crumble around her.
The Decision
"What should I do now?" Sophia asked Eva. "Eric's brain chemistry is highly unpredictable and his violence factor is elevating." She replied.
"Can we reverse this?"
"Reversal is impossible. Either we have to keep him alive sedating him whenever he goes violent or terminate his revival forever. The choice is yours."
Sophia's eyes watched Eric's sedated form intently. She cannot see him suffer anymore. Her heart was extremely heavy with sorrow. She couldn't think of losing him for a second time. She cradled his face, with tears streaming down her face. "Eva, let us initiate the Termination Protocol." she said with her voice cracking.
The Protocol was initiated. Step by step, Eric's system was being powered-off. Sophia looked out of the window, as she couldn't bear to watch him die again. Eva stepped up to her and said, "Revival is like a Pandora's box. It's better left unopened."
The Aftermath
Sophia's laboratory had to close down. She was still criticized by the world. People debated on the ethics of revival. She felt being consumed by her grievances. Was she blinded by love? The heat of the news will fade over in a span of months, but one thing was fixed... Eric was gone, Forever!
